Supporting Local Charities Makes Our Communities Stronger, Part 2 – Wallkill Edition

Community First – At WVFSL we believe in the importance and power of Community.  We believe in supporting local charities. Doing so allows us to reach out to group that is larger than our customer base and show we care. We are in the second month of sharing a little bit about some of the charities we have been proud to support over the years.  This month we look at the community around our flagship branch, Wallkill.  Here are a few of our featured charities for November:

Plattekill Elementary Kinder Box

and

Vision of Wallkill

and

The Steward Crowell Foundation

Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan was proud to be a part of the Plattekill Elementary Kinder Box program during its first year.

About The Plattekill Elementary Kinder Box
The Kinder Box initiative at Plattekill Elementary School was started in the summer of 2015 by reading teacher Elisabetta Lacoviello. This initiative raises money through gift card donations to supply incoming kindergarteners with “kinder boxes,” small care packages containing crayons, safety scissors, reading materials, and cards laminated in plastic with their birthdays and names on them. Through the donations collected, Plattekill Elementary was able to supply 72 kinder boxes to incoming kindergarteners this school year. The idea came to Mrs. Lacoviello when she heard about a program of the Finnish government who supplies new mothers with a box containing everything they will need for a child’s first year of life. You can find out more by reading an article written about the project here: http://www.recordonline.com/article/20150705/NEWS/150709722

Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan’s Wallkill Branch donated $550 during the Kinder Box’s first year. We were happy to donate 11 iPads to help the cause as well as 80 Piggy Banks to place inside the Kinder Boxes.  We look forward to continuing our support in the future!

Vision of Wallkill is a group that is very in line with the mission of Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan and we are proud to be a sponsor of this community minded group.

To help support Vision of Wallkill our Wallkill Branch was happy to host a catered dinner for one of the organization’s meetings. Additionally we donated $1000 to help further the cause of making our community a better place to live!

Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan is proud to have contributed The Stewart Crowell Foundation.

About The Stewart Crowell Foundation
Golf pro and TV personality Brian Crowell started The Stewart Crowell Foundation in memory of his father Stewart Crowell.  Stewart was a member of the Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan board who passed away suddenly in early 2014.  Stewart believed in bringing people together today to help the people of the Hudson Valley.  Earlier this year, the foundation hosted its annual Carpe Diem Golf Tournament to raise scholarship money for Wallkill High School graduates who have made a difference through giving back to their community. To find out more visit their website at www.crowellfoundation.com

Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan was proud to support the Carpe Diem Golf Tournament.  Our $5000 donation included Hole & Tee sponsorships as well as the support of a team of Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan employees who participated as golfers during the tournament.
